Writing a heroine who always pays her debts…

NEWS:

So, Of Silk And Steam (Book Five – London Steampunk) has been handed into my editor. At the moment it has a release date of March 2015.

Leo Barrons finally gets his own book, and his heroine, the Duchess of Casavian, proves to be more than a match for him.

Here's a little excerpt to tide you over:

Barrons' body blocked Mina's path, though she didn't think it deliberate. “Was that everything?”

Barrons glanced through the glass, surveying the factory. Galloway's group was further away now, examining the semi-rigid construction of the pleasure cruiser. Tension etched itself across his broad shoulders. “Perhaps I simply wished to get you alone.”

“To warn me about dangerous plots?” Her voice held a teasing lightness to it.

Faint humour stirred in his expression, his right brow twitching. “No, duchess. I was thinking something far more interesting than that. Perhaps it's the presence of the dirigible. Reminds me of the other night. Of… debts owed. And paid.”

“So you lured me here under false pretences?” she replied, taking a step to the side when he took one toward her.

Barrons smiled; a lazy stretch of the mouth. “Would you have come if I'd told you I planned on kissing you?”

Yes. No. Her smile froze. “I've decided they're bad for my health.”

“Precisely.” Another step that had her pressing back against the far wall.

“Besides, the other night was different. I owed you a kiss and a Duvall always pays their debts.”

“And last night?” The overwhelming presence of his body was palpable now. A wall of bay rum came off him, lingering in her nostrils. Making her mouth water, just a little.

            “Barrons,” she warned.

“Last night,” he murmured. “You didn't owe me anything.”

As always, this material is copyrighted to me. Also, this is pre-edits. It may – or may not – make it into the final novel.

NEWSLETTER

The next newsletter is due on the 26th of March. I'm planning a little something special for my newsletter subscribers. There's never enough book to add everything that I want to, and there are several scenes – or pieces of back story that I'd love to write, so I thought I'd share them with my newsletter subscribers.

First little scene I'm planning? Blade and Will's first meeting, where Blade rescues Will from the penny gaff shop. If you want to join me for these little exclusive excerpts, sign up for my newsletter (top right-hand corner).

ARRA AWARDS

The Australian Romance Readers Awards are on in two weeks time in Sydney, and I'm so excited to be going! Heart of Iron and My Lady Quicksilver are up for five awards, but mostly I can't wait to catch up with both old and new friends and meet some of the fantastic readers who love London Steampunk so much! Also, a three course dinner is never to be sneezed at.

Until then, I'm working on a few new special projects, plus dwelling on the next potential London Steampunk. There's a certain someone who hasn't had her story told who is calling to me, but I'm enjoying taking the chance to write in another world. It always keeps me from stagnating.
